A question remains over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s participation in the 2027 Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Pakistan. However, Islamabad has shared formal indications about inviting India. Pakistan Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tahir Andrabi addressed the issue during a media briefing. He said all SCO member countries will receive invitations for the summit. Furthermore, Andrabi clarified that all member states’ heads of state and government leaders will receive invitations. This means India also remains among the invited countries.
According to the spokesperson, the host country must invite every member under SCO procedures and protocols. Therefore, Pakistan will follow the organisation’s established process.
SCO Summit Planned In Pakistan For 2027
The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit has been proposed in Pakistan in 2027. The event will take place under the organisation’s multilateral meeting framework.
Meanwhile, questions also emerged about a possible meeting between Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar and Pakistan’s Foreign Minister during ASEAN meetings in Manila. However, Pakistan’s spokesperson said Islamabad has not received any information from India regarding such a meeting.
SCO Includes Major Regional Countries
SCO represents a major annual international platform among member nations. The organisation includes China, Russia, India, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Iran, and Belarus. The organisation was established in Beijing on 15 June 2001. Its main objective focuses on promoting peace, stability, and economic development in the region.
Moreover, the Council of Heads of State (CHS) serves as SCO’s highest decision-making body. The chairmanship rotates annually among member countries.
During each term, the chairing nation also hosts the leaders’ summit for that year.
