CM Shubhendu Adhikari and Finance Minister Swapan Dasgupta performed ceremonial puja before presenting the budget. They delivered documents in traditional Bengali mat and jute files, symbolizing cultural identity and local craftsmanship. Finance Minister Dasgupta revealed the state’s debt at ₹8,55,000 crore and ensured all social welfare projects will continue.
Government Jobs and Women’s Empowerment
The budget creates 1 lakh vacant positions, reserving 33% for women. This step will strengthen employment and promote economic empowerment. Analysts suggest this move challenges the previous regime’s welfare narrative and emphasizes financial independence for women.
Dearness Allowance Increase
Finance Minister Dasgupta announced a 20% DA hike for government employees and pensioners, raising the total to 38%. This adjustment starts from April 1, 2026, helping citizens manage inflation.
Transportation and Journalist Benefits
The government raised salaries for West Bengal Transport Corporation bus conductors. Retired journalists will receive ₹5,000 monthly pension. Millions of workers and pensioners will directly benefit.
Free Bus Service for Women
The GRAMG scheme allocates ₹14,000 crore, with ₹550 crore dedicated to free bus services for women. Authorities will issue pink cards to facilitate this service.
Additional Welfare and Transparency Measures
Finance Minister Dasgupta confirmed major allocations for the Annapurna scheme. State mines will now be auctioned through central e-auction systems to ensure transparency. The government will establish a new police district in Kanthi, a new sub-division in Gopiballabhpur, and several fire brigade stations across the state.
