Court Extends Remand
In Bhopal, the high-profile Twisha Sharma case took a major turn. The five-day CBI remand for Giribala Singh and Samarth Singh ended. Court extended judicial custody until 16 June. Judge Shobhana Bhalave presided over the proceedings, citing contradictions in the scene recreation statements.
Scene Recreation and Interrogation
On Monday, CBI recreated the crime scene at Bag Mugalia Extension. They used a 80-kg life-size Twisha mannequin. Over 72 hours, investigators asked 72 questions about abortion, character, drugs, and sleeping arrangements. Contradictions appeared in both Giribala and Samarth’s accounts.
Accusations and Responses
Giribala claimed she approved of Twisha’s inter-caste marriage and provided approximately seven lakh rupees during the five months. She mentioned Twisha suffered anxiety, personality disorder, and adjustment issues, with medical records confirming treatment.
Samarth stated that on 12 May, he and Twisha had a normal evening walk, dinner, and TV. After Twisha’s mother called, events escalated. He said he held Twisha’s legs, her mother removed the belt, and CPR was performed before taking her to AIIMS.
Unanswered Questions
Investigators questioned why Samarth fled after the incident, why Twisha was taken directly to AIIMS, and how pre-death injuries occurred. Both suspects failed to provide satisfactory answers.
Next Steps
The court denied relief and sent Giribala and Samarth to 14 days of judicial custody. During this period, CBI will finalize forensic and digital evidence analysis.
