Silent Price Shock Hits India: What Quietly Became Costlier in 15 Days Will Stun You

Fuel price hike triggers chain reaction as FMCG, dairy, vegetables and food services see widespread cost increases across India

India has experienced a quiet but sharp rise in essential prices over the last 15 days as fuel costs increased sharply. Petrol and diesel prices rose by 7.50 rupees per litre, while LPG cylinder prices also went up. As a result, logistics and transport expenses across supply chains increased significantly, affecting multiple sectors at once.

FMCG Sector Sees Sharp Price Revision

FMCG companies quickly responded to rising input costs as raw material prices jumped 11 percent and packaging costs surged 56 percent. Major companies including HUL, Dabur, Marico and Colgate increased product prices. Soaps like Dove and Pears became 4–5 percent costlier. Meanwhile, detergent prices rose by 5–11 percent. Toothpaste products from Colgate and Dabur also became more expensive, adding pressure on daily household budgets.

Dairy Products Record Steady Increase

Dairy prices also moved upward during this 15-day period. Amul Gold 1-litre pack increased from 68 to 70 rupees. Amul Taza rose from 55 to 57 rupees. Mother Dairy full cream milk increased from 69 to 72 rupees. Additionally, buffalo milk prices jumped from 75 to 80 rupees per litre, reflecting consistent cost pressure in essential nutrition items.

Food Essentials and Vegetables Turn Costlier

Rising freight and logistics costs pushed retailers to increase rice and pulses prices by 5–7 rupees per kilogram. Marico also raised Safola edible oil prices by 6–11 percent. Vegetable prices surged sharply during this period. Tomatoes jumped from 30–40 rupees to 60–70 rupees per kilogram. Onion, ginger, green chilli and lemon also saw price increases. Furthermore, potato, brinjal and okra rose by 5–10 rupees due to transport cost pressure.

Dining Out Becomes More Expensive

Commercial LPG price hikes directly affected the food service sector. Restaurant operating costs increased, pushing food inflation to 5.75 percent. As a result, restaurant owners raised menu prices by 1.8 percent over the last month to manage rising input costs.

Combined Impact on Household Budgets

Overall, fuel inflation, logistics pressure and supply chain disruptions have collectively increased the cost of everyday essentials across India. This combined effect continues to reshape household spending patterns, making basic consumption more expensive nationwide.
