Vote counting for Rejinagar began at 8 am, and the seat quickly drew attention. Meanwhile, Aam Janata Unnayan Party leader Humayun Kabir moved ahead here. Also, Kabir contested from Murshidabad’s Naoda seat. Therefore, he now leads on both seats.
In Naoda, Kabir received 11,320 votes after two counting rounds. Moreover, he leads TMC’s Sahina Momtaz Khan by 5,328 votes. However, Rejinagar remains equally important. This seat saw a strong TMC-BJP fight. Additionally, Kabir’s entry made this contest more dramatic.
On Rejinagar, MC’s Rabiul Alam Chowdhury also entered the fray. BJP’s Bapan Ghosh contested too. ICN’s Zillu SK and AITC’s Ataur Rahman also tested their luck. Rejinagar sits in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district. Also, it falls under the general category.
This time, the Rejinagar battle turned more exciting. In 2021, TMC won this seat. TMC’s Alam Chowdhury defeated BJP’s Arvind Biswas by 68,268 votes. Moreover, Rejinagar forms part of the Baharampur Lok Sabha constituency. In 2024, TMC candidate Yusuf Pathan won Baharampur. He defeated Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury by 85,022 votes.
Rejinagar’s political history began in 2011. Officials created this Assembly seat that year. Since then, voters have seen four elections here. This count also includes the 2013 bypoll. In 2011, Congress won the first election with TMC support. Humayun Kabir defeated Revolutionary Socialist Party candidate Sirajul Islam Mondal by 8,761 votes.
Later, Kabir joined TMC. Consequently, the seat saw a bypoll in 2013. However, Kabir finished third in that contest. Congress candidate Rabiul Alam Chowdhury won that bypoll. He defeated Mondal by 11,722 votes. Then, Chowdhury retained the seat in 2016. He defeated Humayun Kabir by 5,560 votes. Kabir contested as an Independent because TMC denied him a ticket.
Before the 2021 election, Rabiul Alam Chowdhury joined TMC. Then, he scored his third straight win. This time, he defeated BJP’s Arabinda Biswas by 68,226 votes. Meanwhile, Congress slipped to third place. Also, BJP emerged as voters’ second choice.
According to the 2026 voter list, Rejinagar has 259,004 voters. This includes 134,986 men, 124,012 women, and 6 third-gender voters. In 2021, Rejinagar had 259,771 voters. However, this number rose to 271,524 during the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. According to the 2011 Census, Muslims form nearly 65.10 percent of voters. Scheduled Caste voters make up 6.72 percent. Finally, Rejinagar remains fully rural, with no urban voters.
