Ranchi Protest Takes New Turn as Student Claims Police Fired Expired Tear Gas Shell, Where is Rahul Gandhi?

A protesting student claims police fired a tear gas shell that expired in 2022 during Ranchi’s Assembly march after 17 days of agitation.

Students have continued their protest in Jharkhand’s capital, Ranchi, for the past 17 days. However, three rounds of talks failed to produce a solution. Therefore, protesters marched towards the Assembly on August 10. Students continued advancing while raising slogans. Subsequently, police used lathicharge, water cannons and tear gas against the protesters. Meanwhile, students made a serious allegation concerning one shell. They claimed police used expired tear gas during the demonstration.

Student Shows Tear Gas Shell That Expired in 2022

While speaking with ABP News, a protester named Tushar displayed an allegedly expired tear gas shell. According to him, police fired the shell, but it failed to explode.

The shell carried manufacturing and expiry information on its body. Its markings showed a manufacturing year of 2019 and an expiry date of 2022. Tushar claimed the shell landed near his foot. Moreover, he said he continued experiencing a burning sensation afterward.

Students and Police Clash at Several Locations

Police made extensive arrangements to prevent protesters from advancing towards the Assembly. Authorities also installed barbed-wire barricades along the route. However, the protesting students continued moving forward.

According to the reference, demonstrators broke through security arrangements installed by the Hemant Soren government. Consequently, students and police clashed at several locations. The situation then became highly tense.

Devendranath Mahato Warns Hemant Soren Government

Meanwhile, JPSC-JSSC Nyay Manch student leader Devendranath Mahato criticised the government over police action. He sarcastically linked the crackdown with the Chief Minister’s birthday.

Mahato said the Chief Minister offered lathicharge, water cannons and tear gas as birthday “gifts” to students. Furthermore, he declared that the ongoing movement would not stop.

According to Mahato, authorities are using water cannons and tear gas to suppress student voices. He also described the government as cowardly. Finally, Mahato warned that the government would shake if authorities refused to accept their demands
