NEET-UG 2026 re-exam is scheduled for 21 June 2026. Ahead of this, the government announced a major digital security action. Consequently, Telegram access faces a temporary restriction until 22 June.
Additionally, message editing features will remain disabled until 30 June.
NTA Links Action to Exam Security and Fairness
National Testing Agency stated the decision ensures safe and fair conduct. Moreover, the Centre supported this step for examination integrity. Therefore, restrictions aim to protect students during re-exam process.
NTA confirmed coordination with multiple government agencies for enforcement.
Fake Paper Leak Networks Under Scanner
According to NTA, several groups targeted students and families through Telegram. These groups promised question papers under names like “Paper Leaked NEET.” Other channels included “Re-NEET 2026” and “Private Mafia” networks.
Furthermore, they demanded payments ranging from thousands to lakhs of rupees.
Cyber Authorities and Police Take Coordinated Action
Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre under MHA led the crackdown. Additionally, state police and MeitY joined the operation. Together, they removed multiple fake Telegram channels and automated bots.
Consequently, authorities intensified monitoring of digital fraud related to exams.
Message Editing Abuse Triggered Strong Concern
NTA highlighted misuse of Telegram’s message editing feature. Fraudsters allegedly altered old messages after exams to fake paper leaks. Therefore, edited content created false claims of prior question access.
This manipulation pushed authorities to impose temporary platform restrictions.
Students and Users Affected by Temporary Ban
NTA acknowledged Telegram usage for study, jobs, and communication. However, it also expressed regret over inconvenience caused to users. Still, restrictions remain limited to ensure exam security during re-test.
Authorities aim to balance safety with essential digital communication needs.
Official Advisory for Students and Parents
NTA urged candidates to avoid rumors and unverified information. Instead, it directed them to official website neet.nta.nic.in. Additionally, verified social media accounts will provide authentic updates.
Notably, around 22 lakh candidates will appear in the re-exam.
