Instagram has changed its rules for profiles featuring AI-created people. The platform will rename its existing AI creator label as the AI-generated profile label.
The new label will help users identify whether a profile represents a real person or an AI-created personality. However, profiles showing AI-generated people without proper disclosure may lose recommendation eligibility.
Therefore, creators who avoid the AI label could face reduced content reach on Instagram. Meanwhile, creators using the correct label will not receive any reach penalty.
Old AI Creator Label Will Become New System
Instagram explained the change through a blog post. The platform started testing this label system earlier this year.
Creators using the previous label can review the updated option. They can confirm the new label or remove it if it no longer applies.
The updated label will target profiles that display an AI-created person. It will not apply simply because creators use AI tools during content creation.
Missing Disclosure Can Affect Profile Recommendations
If a profile displays an AI-created person without required information, Instagram may remove its recommendation eligibility.
Affected creators will receive information about possible restrictions. They can check their account status to understand whether Instagram limited their reach.
Additionally, creators can add the AI-generated profile label to restore recommendation eligibility. The profile can become eligible again after proper disclosure.
Correct AI Label Will Not Reduce Reach
Instagram clarified that creators will not face reach penalties after correctly identifying AI-generated profiles.
Furthermore, creators can appeal through account status if they believe Instagram applied restrictions incorrectly.
If Instagram accepts the appeal, the profile and its content can become eligible for recommendations again.
Users’ Feedback Triggered The Rule Change
Instagram said it introduced these changes after receiving feedback from users. Many users found profiles that looked like real people initially.
Later, they discovered that those personalities came from AI generation. Therefore, Instagram created the updated labeling system.
The platform believes the new system will help users understand who or what exists behind profiles appearing on Instagram.
