Global Energy Tensions Trigger Gas Concerns
Meanwhile, global conflicts and rising tensions have created uncertainty across energy markets. Consequently, rumors about LPG shortages in India started spreading. In a nation of 140 crore people, kitchen fuel issues naturally create public concern. Because India imports a large share of energy requirements, citizens want clarity about available gas stock.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi continues monitoring the situation closely. His focus ensures that household kitchens across the country remain operational.
India Has Vast LPG Connection Network
Latest data from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas reveals important figures. Currently, domestic LPG connections in India exceed 33 crore. Additionally, many urban and middle class households use double cylinder connections. Therefore, the total number of LPG cylinders across the country exceeds 66 crore.
This massive number highlights how India strengthened energy accessibility during recent years. Meanwhile, the government clearly stated that citizens should avoid panic.
Authorities confirmed that the country currently faces no physical LPG shortage.
Gas Access Doubled During Last Decade
Earlier data from 2014 showed only 14.5 crore LPG connections across India. However, during the last ten to twelve years this number increased sharply. Consequently, total LPG connections nearly doubled and reached around 33 crore.
The expansion largely occurred due to the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. Under this initiative, authorities distributed about 10.4 crore subsidised or free LPG connections. These connections mainly supported poor and rural households. Consequently, many women gained relief from harmful smoke exposure.
Additionally, gas distribution networks expanded into remote villages across the country.
PNG Network Expands Across Cities
Meanwhile, authorities also focus on piped natural gas supply. This system delivers gas directly into kitchens through pipelines. According to official figures, approximately 1.5 crore homes currently receive PNG supply. This service mainly operates across metropolitan regions and tier-1 cities.
Consumers consider PNG safer and more convenient than cylinders. Additionally, PNG removes repeated refill bookings.
Meanwhile, the government aims to expand this pipeline network toward smaller cities in the future.
Industries And Businesses Also Use Gas
Meanwhile, LPG and piped gas also support economic sectors across India.
Statistics show that more than 45,000 commercial establishments use piped gas. These establishments include hotels and restaurants. Additionally, more than 20,000 industries depend on gas for operations. Meanwhile, commercial cylinders also exist in crores.
These cylinders help meet the requirements of small businesses nationwide. Consequently, the expanded distribution system strengthens supply stability during crises.
Government Strategy To Handle Energy Crisis
Meanwhile, global tensions such as Iran Israel conflict affect crucial shipping routes like the Strait of Hormuz. Such disruptions create challenges for import dependent countries including India.
However, the central government created strategies to manage potential supply disruptions. Authorities instructed companies to maintain strong buffer gas stock. Additionally, the government established strategic petroleum reserves.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi regularly reviews the situation with the petroleum ministry. These meetings aim to protect citizens from sudden international price fluctuations. Furthermore, authorities placed gas agencies and distribution networks on alert.
Consequently, officials can prevent black marketing and maintain smooth supply across the country.
