Delhi-Ambala Rail Chaos: Dozens of Trains Cancelled or Diverted Until 6 June 2026

Railway block for loop line expansion and electronic interlocking disrupts travel; check affected trains and rescheduled routes

Railway authorities have blocked the Delhi-Ambala route from 30 May to 6 June 2026 to expand loop lines and activate a new Electronic Interlocking (EI) system.

Consequently, passengers face significant inconvenience as 22 trains have been fully cancelled, 29 trains diverted, and several others rescheduled.

The block affects Shahbad Markanda and Mohri stations, and officials urge travelers to plan journeys carefully.

Key Trains Cancelled

On 6 June, high-profile trains will not operate, including:

  • New Delhi-Chandigarh Shatabdi Express (12045/12046)
  • Ajmer-Chandigarh Vande Bharat Express (20977/20978)

Additionally, Ajmer-Chandigarh Garib Rath Express (12983) will not run on 31 May and 2 June, while Chandigarh-Ajmer Garib Rath Express (12984) is cancelled on 1 and 3 June.

Diverted Trains and Alternate Routes

Railways have rerouted some trains to bypass the block, ensuring smoother movement:

  • Chandigarh-Yeshwantpur Karnataka Sampark Kranti Express (22686) will run via Ambala-Saharanpur-Meerut-Ghaziabad on 2 June.
  • Chandigarh-Madgaon Goa Sampark Kranti Express (12450) will take an alternate route on 1 June.

Officials emphasize that these measures aim to maintain passenger safety and avoid congestion while upgrades are underway.

Passenger Advisory and Recommendations

Passengers should actively check NTES or call helpline 139 to confirm train status before travel. Travelers must account for delays, verify seat reservations, and stay updated about any sudden rescheduling or diversions. Authorities highlight that completing the loop line expansion and EI system will enhance safety, operational efficiency, and long-term reliability.

Meanwhile, commuters should plan ahead and allow extra travel time to accommodate the current disruptions effectively.
