AI Storm Powers ChatGPT to No.2 Spot, Only TikTok Ahead

Record Growth in Downloads, Spending, and User Time Pushes ChatGPT to Global Second Rank in 2025

Artificial Intelligence adoption has accelerated sharply in recent months. Consequently, users now install AI tools at record pace. Sensor Tower latest global mobile report confirms this dramatic shift.

During 2025, AI assistants led charts across downloads, spending, and engagement time. Therefore, ChatGPT captured maximum momentum from this digital wave. Consumers downloaded the platform heavily through Google Play Store and Apple App Store.

ChatGPT Records Explosive Growth Metrics

Sensor Tower data highlights extraordinary expansion during 2025. Installations increased by 148 percent. In app purchases jumped by 254 percent. Moreover, user time inside the platform rose by 426 percent.

Hence, people not only installed the service rapidly. Additionally, they invested money into premium features. Furthermore, audiences spent significantly longer sessions using it.

Because of this surge, ChatGPT became last year most downloaded application. Moreover, it now ranks second globally among all apps ever downloaded. In the same category appear Google Gemini, DeepSeek, Duabayo, Grok, Meta AI, and Microsoft Copilot.

Social Platforms Maintain Stronghold

Despite AI expansion, gaming platforms slipped behind. However, social networks retained dominance across markets. Last year, global audiences spent 2.5 trillion hours on these platforms.

On average, each individual invested nearly 90 minutes daily online. This figure stands 5 percent higher than 2024 levels. Across downloads, purchases, and engagement duration, TikTok continues leading worldwide.

India Tops Generative AI Download Charts

India leads globally in generative AI installations and chatbot usage. Out of total worldwide app installations, 20 percent occur within India alone.

However, spending patterns tell a different story. Indian audiences download widely yet rarely purchase premium upgrades. During 2025, only 1 percent of in app purchases came from Indian users.

Thus, India drives installation volume strongly. Meanwhile, monetisation contribution remains comparatively limited.
