Amazon Drops Rufus AI, New Alexa Shopping Assistant Could Change Online Buying

Amazon has launched Alexa for Shopping in the US, replacing Rufus AI with smarter product suggestions, cart creation, price tracking, and personal recommendations.

Amazon has made a major change on its shopping platform. Now, the company has removed Rufus AI and launched Alexa for Shopping. Moreover, Amazon claims this new assistant will offer a smarter, personal, and conversational AI experience.

Currently, Amazon has introduced this feature in the United States. Users can access it through the Amazon app, website, and Echo Show devices. However, Amazon has not revealed launch dates for other countries yet.

New Assistant Combines Rufus AI And Alexa+

Amazon says Alexa for Shopping combines Rufus AI and Alexa+. Earlier, Rufus AI understood Amazon’s product catalogue and user behaviour. Now, Alexa+ adds stronger conversation skills and better command understanding.

Therefore, users can ask questions in normal language instead of typing basic keywords. For example, a shopper can ask which laptop suits them better. Similarly, another user can ask which product will arrive faster. Also, Amazon says this AI will remember preferences and older search patterns. As a result, it can offer more accurate suggestions.

Alexa Can Now Build Shopping Carts

The new Alexa for Shopping assistant also includes agentic AI features. Therefore, it can complete several shopping tasks on its own. Users can give one command and ask it to create a full shopping cart.

Additionally, the assistant can schedule regular purchases automatically. These items may include diapers, kitchen rolls, or daily-use products. Moreover, users can set price-based conditions before buying.

For example, a user can ask Alexa to add a product when its price drops by ₹500. Then, the AI can add that item to the cart. Amazon has also added a Shop Direct feature. With this option, users can buy products from third-party retailers.

AI Overview And Price History Add More Clarity

Amazon’s new AI assistant will also show AI-generated overviews above search results. Therefore, users can understand product categories faster. This feature can also make buying decisions easier.

Additionally, product pages will show price history from the past one year. As a result, users can see when prices moved up or down. Amazon has also focused strongly on personalization.

Users can update details about family, pets, food preferences, and interests. Then, the AI can give more accurate and personal suggestions. Finally, Amazon says it wants online shopping to feel easier, smarter, and more like human conversation.
