Ahead of the Parliament Monsoon Session, Congress has finalised its political strategy. The party decided to oppose several major bills that the government may introduce.
The decision came after the Congress Parliamentary Strategy Committee held a meeting for around one and a half hours. Later, party general secretary Jairam Ramesh and MP Nasir Hussain addressed the media. They said Congress will oppose proposed changes related to delimitation, Constitution amendments, One Nation One Election, FCRA amendments, and the National Food Security Act.
Meanwhile, Congress said the government has not officially shared details about the upcoming bills.
Congress Questions Government’s Bill Information Process
Jairam Ramesh said the government has not informed parties about the bills planned for the Monsoon Session. Therefore, the committee discussed possible legislative proposals during the meeting.
He added that Congress will seek details from the government during the all-party meeting scheduled on July 19.
Additionally, Ramesh said Congress will continue demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The party also raised concerns about the current process of all-party meetings. According to Ramesh, these meetings have become only a formality. He claimed leaders share their views there, but final decisions come from only a few people.
Furthermore, he alleged that the opposition’s suggestions do not receive serious consideration.
Congress To Oppose Delimitation And Constitution Changes
Congress announced strong opposition if the government introduces a delimitation bill. The party said it will oppose such a proposal with full strength. Moreover, Congress plans to unite the entire opposition against the issue.
The party also announced opposition to any proposal related to constitutional amendments. Jairam Ramesh alleged that BJP is trying to secure a two-thirds majority in the Lok Sabha through political methods. He claimed the party is attempting this by breaking political parties and using other methods.
According to Ramesh, such actions go against the spirit of the Constitution. Congress said it will continue opposing these moves.
