India signed a defence agreement with Indonesia on Tuesday, July 7, regarding BrahMos missiles. Consequently, the deal strengthens defence relations between both nations. Additionally, it supports India’s domestic defence industry growth.
Furthermore, Indonesia will purchase India-made Astra air-to-air missiles under this agreement. The Defence Research and Development Organisation developed Astra missile technology.
Indonesia To Receive BrahMos And Astra Systems
India plans to supply BrahMos supersonic cruise missile systems and Astra Mk1 air-to-air missiles to Indonesia. Moreover, Indonesia will become the first foreign country to purchase Astra missiles.
Additionally, India may provide extra BrahMos missile batteries to Indonesia. These agreements came during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Indonesia visit.
Meanwhile, Modi said growing trust between both countries strengthens defence, security, and maritime cooperation. He also mentioned agreements covering defence exchanges, disaster management, and industrial cooperation.
