Ram Mandir Donation Allegations Reach Supreme Court, CJI Review Sought

A plea urges Supreme Court intervention over alleged financial irregularities in Ram Mandir donations, demanding independent probe and court-monitored investigation.

A request has reached the Supreme Court demanding suo motu cognisance over alleged irregularities in Ram Mandir donations.
The plea urges judicial review of reported financial misconduct linked to temple funds collected from devotees.
Advocate Anup Awasthi submitted a letter petition to the Chief Justice seeking impartial investigation.
He described the issue as deeply connected to faith of millions of devotees.

Concerns Over Trust and Devotee Faith

The petition highlights that the temple operates under a trust formed after the 2020 Supreme Court verdict.
It further notes that the Ram Lalla consecration on 22 January 2024 marked a historic cultural moment.
Additionally, the temple now receives large daily footfall from devotees across the country.
Donations in temple boxes represent devotion, faith, and spiritual commitment rather than financial transactions.

Allegations of Financial Irregularities

According to the petitioner, serious allegations of corruption and misuse of donation funds have surfaced.
Reports also mention concerns involving some former employees and individuals under suspicion.
Furthermore, claims of disproportionate assets have been linked to certain persons involved.
The petitioner argues these developments demand deeper scrutiny under judicial oversight.

Administrative Probe and Legal Concerns

The Uttar Pradesh government has already formed a three-member SIT for initial inquiry.
However, no FIR has been registered in the matter so far, as stated in the letter.
The petition argues that administrative review alone cannot ensure complete transparency.
It also warns that the issue may fade without strong judicial monitoring.

Demand for Independent Investigation

The petitioner insists that alleged theft of deity-linked assets cannot be treated as ordinary crime.
Since the trust originates from a Supreme Court order, transparency becomes a constitutional responsibility.
Therefore, the plea demands a CBI or independent agency investigation under court supervision.
It also requests scrutiny of donation collection, expenditure, and future safeguarding mechanisms under judicial control.
