Prakash Chik’s Resignation Statement
Chik wrote, “I resign from Rajya Sabha membership with immediate effect. Please accept my resignation.
I express sincere gratitude to the Deputy Chairperson and all officials for their support during my tenure.”
Sushmita Dev’s Exit and Political Moves
On 10 June, Sushmita Dev resigned from both Rajya Sabha and TMC.
After her resignation, she met Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, sparking speculation about joining BJP.
Dev started her political career with Congress, elected from Silchar in 2014. She joined TMC in 2021.
TMC had sent Dev to Rajya Sabha twice, first from October 2021 to August 2023, and second starting April 2024.
She resigned before completing her second term, creating another setback for Mamata Banerjee’s party.
Shukhendu Roy’s Earlier Resignation
Previously, on 8 June, senior TMC leader Shukhendu Shekhar Roy resigned from both Rajya Sabha and party membership.
He stated his decision considered recent political events in West Bengal and the public mandate.
Roy added that the state’s populace had rejected TMC due to corruption, crimes against women, and declining governance.
He cited weaknesses in education, healthcare, industrial growth, employment, and law enforcement as causes for public dissatisfaction.
