After West Bengal election loss, TMC faces severe internal conflict. Mamata Banerjee appointed Shobhandev Chattopadhyay as opposition leader. However, Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari alleged some MLAs used fake signatures in letters to the Speaker. Moreover, TMC MLAs Ritabrata Banerjee and Sandip Saha reported forgery. Consequently, Mamata expelled both for anti-party activity.
Low MLA Attendance and Growing Anger
Since the election loss, dissatisfaction has increased inside TMC. Party sources revealed MLA anger targets party general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, not Mamata. Furthermore, only 20 out of 80 MLAs attended a meeting at Mamata’s residence. Expelled MLA Sandip Saha blamed Abhishek for signing the lists that caused controversy.
CID Investigation
Following the fake signature revelation, West Bengal CID began an investigation. Several TMC leaders received notices. Moreover, Abhishek Banerjee was summoned for questioning but did not appear. The probe highlights ongoing internal disputes within the party.
Resignations and Public Backlash
TMC MP Kakoli Ghosh resigned from her district president post, reflecting leadership dissatisfaction. Meanwhile, senior BJP leader Dilip Ghosh mocked TMC, claiming only Mamata and her nephew remain loyal in the party. Consequently, TMC struggles to maintain cohesion as disgruntled leaders openly express resentment.
