CBI lodges FIR against deceased’s husband and mother-in-law as police negligence raises concerns over key evidence and investigation.

CBI took charge of Twisha Sharma’s high-profile case, lodging FIR against her husband Samarth Singh and mother-in-law Giribala Singh. Special Crime Unit from Delhi collected evidence and documents in Bhopal. The move intensified scrutiny over local police handling.

AIIMS Team Denied Critical Evidence

Sources revealed AIIMS team from Delhi could not access the belt allegedly used in the suicide during re-postmortem. Police claimed it was with Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and promised to formally request it.

Police Delay Spot Verification

Thirteen days after the incident, Bhopal police conducted spot verification. The team examined digital evidence including mobiles and laptops at the deceased’s in-laws’ residence for two hours. Local police faced criticism for delayed and careless evidence management in such a sensitive case.

Case Background and Supreme Court Oversight

Twisha Sharma, 33, was found hanging in her Bhopal Katara Hills residence on 12 May. Her family alleged dowry harassment and incitement to murder, while in-laws linked her death to drug addiction. Supreme Court, led by Justices Surya Kant and Joymalya Bagchi, assured impartial, independent, and bias-free investigation. The court instructed both parties to avoid media statements.
