On 9th April 2026, Assam will hold its legislative assembly elections. Ahead of this, BJP has revealed its first comprehensive list of candidates. The party has named candidates for 89 seats, with 88 initially announced and the rest set to follow soon. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had previously confirmed that the entire list would be released at once, and it has now been done.

Pradyut Bordoloi Receives Key Seat
In a major move, former Congress MP Pradyut Bordoloi, who recently joined BJP, has been nominated for the prestigious Dispur seat. Dispur is considered one of the most important and high-profile constituencies in Assam. Bordoloi left Congress on Tuesday and joined BJP the following day in the presence of Himanta Biswa Sarma. Sarma emphasized that Bordoloi’s entry would strengthen the party.
Himanta Biswa Sarma to Contest from Jalukbari
Meanwhile, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma himself will contest from his traditional seat, Jalukbari. Sarma has consistently performed well in this constituency, making it a key area for BJP. His decision to remain in Jalukbari highlights his stronghold there as BJP’s chief face in Assam.
