Prime Minister Narendra Modi may soon meet US President Donald Trump amid the Iran war. This meeting may happen next month during the G7 summit in France. Both leaders will reach Paris to attend the event. Therefore, this meeting could carry major importance amid the oil crisis and Middle East conflict.
According to Axios, both leaders may meet in June. Donald Trump will attend the G7 leaders’ meeting. Meanwhile, France has already said PM Modi will also join the summit. Hence, amid global turmoil, Trump and Modi may meet in France between June 15 and 17.
Last Meeting Took Place In Washington
Trump and PM Modi last met in Washington in February 2025. So, this meeting would happen after 16 months. After Modi’s US visit, Trump imposed tariffs on India as a penalty over Russian oil purchases. Consequently, relations saw some distance after that move.
However, both countries have now completed a trade deal. Therefore, this meeting may focus on the global oil crisis caused by the Hormuz blockade. Inflation may also become a key discussion point during the talks.
France Confirmed Modi’s Participation
France’s foreign ministry recently issued a statement about PM Modi’s visit. The statement shared key points from talks between External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and France’s Europe and Foreign Affairs Minister Jean-Noel. This conversation happened during the G7 foreign ministers’ meeting.
The statement said both ministers welcomed PM Modi’s confirmed participation in the Evian summit. The summit will take place from June 15 to 17. Additionally, both ministers stressed India’s contribution to G7 work.
G7 represents a group of the world’s fastest-growing economies. India does not hold membership in the grouping. Even so, France has invited India as a partner country. Now, the possible Modi-Trump meeting has gained focus because of war, oil pressure, and global uncertainty.
