From May 15, petrol increased by ₹3.14 per litre, reaching ₹97.77 nationwide. Diesel rose ₹3.11 per litre to ₹90.67. Premium petrol rates differ across states, ranging between ₹105.14 and ₹107.14 per litre.
In major cities, petrol prices climbed significantly. Delhi’s petrol rose from ₹94.77 to ₹97.77. Mumbai’s petrol moved from ₹103.54 to ₹106.68. Kolkata’s petrol now costs ₹108.74 versus ₹105.45 before. Chennai’s petrol increased from ₹100.80 to ₹103.67.
Diesel prices also increased. Delhi diesel now costs ₹90.67, Kolkata ₹95.13, Mumbai ₹93.14, and Chennai ₹95.25 per litre.
Locations With Highest And Lowest Fuel Prices
Reports indicate Vijayawada sells the most expensive petrol at ₹111–₹113 per litre. High VAT and transport costs in Andhra Pradesh’s cities drive this increase. Diesel in Vijayawada ranges from ₹97.26 to ₹97.57 per litre.
Conversely, Port Blair in Andaman and Nicobar Islands offers the cheapest petrol at ₹82.46 per litre. Diesel costs only ₹78.05 per litre. The central government has capped local VAT at 1%, keeping prices low.
Comparison Across Major Indian Cities
Among metropolitan areas, Delhi maintains the lowest petrol and diesel rates compared to Kolkata, Mumbai, and Chennai. Delhi petrol is ₹97.77, diesel ₹90.67. Chandigarh also shows relatively lower rates, with petrol at ₹97.27 and diesel at ₹85.25 per litre.
Overall, fuel prices vary widely across India due to VAT, transportation costs, and state-specific policies. Consumers in Port Blair benefit the most, while cities like Vijayawada face the highest rates.
