No Number Needed Now, WhatsApp Brings Username Feature, But Who Gets It First?

WhatsApp rolls out long-awaited username feature allowing contact without phone numbers while limited users access it during early rollout phase

WhatsApp introduced a major feature that changes how users connect on the platform. Now users can contact others without sharing mobile numbers. Moreover users do not need to provide personal numbers anymore. The company started rolling out this long awaited feature recently.

What Username Feature Means

Earlier WhatsApp required mobile numbers for creating accounts and connecting with others. However platforms like Facebook and Instagram already offered username based systems. Now WhatsApp also allows users to set usernames for their accounts. Therefore users can share usernames instead of phone numbers for communication. Additionally this feature gives better control over personal information.

Users Can Reuse Existing Usernames

Moreover users can use their Facebook or Instagram usernames on WhatsApp. For this process users must claim the username through the account center. However if another user already takes that name then it becomes unavailable. In that case users must choose a different unique username.

Steps to Set Username on WhatsApp

First open WhatsApp and go to the profile page. Then tap on the username tab visible on the screen. After that enter the desired username and submit it. If the username remains available then users will get it instantly.

Limited Rollout for Now

Currently WhatsApp has not released this feature for all users. Reports indicate that selected Android and iPhone users received access. Meanwhile the feature remains in its early rollout stage. After testing and improvements WhatsApp will expand it to all users. This process may take some time.

Keep App Updated for Access

Therefore users should keep their WhatsApp application updated regularly. This ensures access to the latest features including the username option.
