Over 3.40 Lakh Students Skip UP Board Exams in Two Days, Cheating Cases Surface

Second day sees 27,052 absentees as authorities register FIRs and tighten monitoring across centres.

Asia’s largest education board witnessed massive absenteeism again. Over 27,052 students skipped exams on February 19. Consequently, total absentees reached nearly 3,40,760 within two days. Authorities monitored centres closely amid rising concerns. In the first shift, officials conducted high school computer exams. Additionally, intermediate students appeared for multiple subjects.

A total of 96,296 students registered for the morning session. However, only 91,530 attended while 4,766 remained absent. In the second shift, 3,92,274 students registered across centres. Meanwhile, 3,69,988 appeared and 22,286 skipped the examination.

Cheating Cases and FIRs Filed

Authorities caught one intermediate student cheating during the exam. Consequently, officials have detected four cheating cases so far. Police have registered six FIRs related to exam malpractice. Moreover, monitoring squads continue surprise inspections across districts.

On the first day, officials caught three students cheating. Two were from Hapur and one from Bareilly. Additionally, authorities identified five impersonators during inspections. These fake candidates appeared in Agra, Fatehpur, Kannauj, Kaushambi, and Etawah.

Examination Centres and Registrations

Officials conducted the first shift across 3,005 centres statewide. High school registered 61,663 students in that shift. Meanwhile, intermediate classes registered 34,633 students for the session. Together, the total reached 96,296 registrations.

The second shift ran from 2 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. Authorities organised exams across 7,214 centres. High school registered 2,139 students in the afternoon shift. Additionally, intermediate registered 3,90,135 candidates.

Absenteeism marked the first day significantly as well. Around 3,13,708 students skipped the opening exam. During the Hindi high school exam, 27,54,376 students registered. However, 25,83,055 attended while 1,71,321 remained absent. In the intermediate second shift, 24,99,370 students registered. Meanwhile, 23,56,983 attended and 1,42,387 skipped the exam.

Authorities Tighten Vigilance

Education officials have intensified surveillance at sensitive centres. Moreover, flying squads continue checking identification documents strictly. Authorities aim to prevent impersonation and organised cheating networks. Therefore, police presence remains strong across districts. Despite high absenteeism, exams continue smoothly statewide. Officials expect attendance patterns to stabilise in coming days.
