Kanpur: A high speed luxury ride turned into a legal storm in Kanpur this week. Police on Thursday arrested Shivam Mishra, son of tobacco industrialist KK Mishra, in connection with a dramatic Lamborghini crash that left six people injured and several vehicles damaged in the city’s upscale Gwaltoli area.
The accident took place around 3 pm on February 8 on VIP Road. According to officials, a Lamborghini Revuelto an Italian supercar priced at over ₹10 crore rammed into pedestrians and multiple vehicles before mounting a divider and coming to a halt. The impact caused panic in the busy locality, with bystanders rushing to assist the injured.
Shivam Mishra, 35, was produced before a Kanpur court following his arrest. The court subsequently sent him to police remand as the investigation gathers pace. Authorities are examining technical evidence, video footage and eyewitness testimonies to establish the sequence of events.
The case took a dramatic twist a day before the arrest. A man identified as Mohan approached the court claiming he was the designated driver and that he not Shivam was behind the wheel at the time of the crash. Speaking to reporters outside the court, Mohan alleged that Shivam, who was seated next to him, suffered a sudden seizure moments before impact.
“I was driving when he suddenly collapsed on me. I panicked and tried to hold him with one hand. The car first hit a three-wheeler, climbed the divider and then stopped,” Mohan said. He further claimed that the car’s automatic locking system delayed his exit. According to him, he shifted Shivam to the driver’s seat afterward and stepped out.
Mohan’s lawyer filed a surrender application, and he appeared before the court on Wednesday. However, Gwaltoli police did not name him as an accused in their report. Taking note of this, the court declined to accept his surrender and sought a detailed report from the local police station.
Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal stated that CCTV footage, eyewitness accounts and other material evidence indicate that Shivam Mishra was driving the Lamborghini when it struck people and vehicles. Senior officers also cited videos that allegedly show bystanders pulling a man believed to be Shivam from the driver’s seat immediately after the crash.
With six injured and questions swirling around responsibility, the investigation now hinges on forensic and digital evidence. The coming days will determine how this high profile case unfolds in court.
