IPL 2027 Auction Returns To India After 3 Years, Big Update On Venue And Mega Auction

The IPL Governing Council has decided to host the 2027 auction in India. The meeting also revealed updates about the 2028 mega auction.

The IPL 2027 auction will take place in India, according to the decision taken during the IPL Governing Council meeting on September 15. For the last three years, IPL auctions happened outside India. However, BCCI has now approved bringing the auction back to the country. The meeting also brought a major update about the IPL 2028 mega auction.

When Will IPL 2027 Auction Happen?

The IPL 2027 auction will happen in December this year. However, officials have not announced the exact date yet. Meanwhile, the IPL 2028 mega auction will reportedly take place outside India. Cricbuzz shared this information through sources after the governing council meeting.

India last hosted the IPL auction in Kochi during 2023. After that, three auctions happened internationally in Dubai, Jeddah and Abu Dhabi. Therefore, the 2027 auction will mark the return of the event to India.

Which City Will Host The IPL Auction?

After bringing the auction back to India, BCCI expects higher viewership compared to previous years. The IPL Governing Council will now select the Indian city for hosting the event. The venue decision will consider facilities and franchise requirements.

Moreover, October to December remains the wedding season in India. Therefore, authorities will choose a city with suitable arrangements, including five-star hotel availability.

Impact Player Rule Decision Still Pending

The September 15 Governing Council meeting finalised the IPL 2027 auction decision. However, the Impact Player Rule did not receive a final decision. The governing council may discuss this rule during its next meeting.
