Mirabai Chanu Delivers Powerful Performance For Silver
Mirabai Chanu gave a strong start in the snatch event. She lifted 83kg, 85kg, and 87kg during her attempts.
Furthermore, she continued her impressive performance in the clean and jerk round. Mirabai lifted 111kg and secured the silver medal.
This victory also ended India’s 28-year wait for an Asian Games weightlifting medal. Earlier, Karnam Malleswari achieved this feat in 1998.
Mirabai Chanu Completes Her Asian Games Promise
Mirabai had promised to win an Asian Games medal after securing gold at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. However, she could not achieve that goal earlier.
In 2014, Mirabai participated in the Asian Games but missed a medal. Later, an injury prevented her from winning a medal opportunity in 2018.
Additionally, she finished fourth in the 2023 edition. But on 23 September 2026, Mirabai finally won silver at the Asian Games.
