India Joins Global 6G Race With 25 Nations, Big Move Towards Future Networks

India has entered a US-led international 6G initiative with 25 other nations, focusing on secure networks, AI integration, innovation and connectivity.

The world has started preparing for 6G technology even before 5G becomes fully established. Meanwhile, India has taken a major step towards future connectivity.

India has joined a global 6G initiative led by the United States. With India’s entry, the initiative now includes 26 governments.

The platform focuses on security, stronger connectivity, compatibility and innovation. It aims to shape the future direction of 6G networks through global cooperation.

India Joins US-Led 6G Technology Initiative

The US Department of Commerce announced India’s inclusion in the initiative. During the G20 Innovation Ministerial, India’s Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada met US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick.

Both leaders discussed the future of 6G technology. The US Commerce Department said the initiative aims to develop next-generation networks.

Furthermore, the platform will consider shared security interests of participating countries. It will also encourage innovation and competition in the 6G sector.

26 Countries Now Part Of The 6G Effort

India joined the initiative along with the US and 24 other countries. Therefore, the total number of participating governments has reached 26.

The initial group included countries like the US, UK, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Finland and Sweden.

Additionally, the initiative focuses on secure 6G networks and better cooperation. It also aims to improve competition and innovation among participating nations.

AI And Network Security Become Key Focus Areas

The participating countries will collaborate on 6G security and strong infrastructure development. They will also discuss AI’s role in building and operating future networks.

For India, this participation provides an opportunity to present its priorities. The country can contribute to discussions on global 6G standards and technical direction.

India And US Discuss Semiconductors, AI And Data Centres

During the G20 Innovation Ministerial, India and the US also discussed important technology sectors. These included semiconductors, artificial intelligence and data centres. India proposed increasing US investment under the India Semiconductor Mission 2.0. Both countries also discussed AI cooperation and safe AI usage rules.

India Continues Its Own 6G Mission

Alongside global participation, India continues developing its domestic 6G programme. The country is working through the India 6G Mission and India 6G Alliance.

The India 6G Alliance has set a target to introduce 6G technology in India by 2030.

Moreover, India plans to develop 6G patents, products and affordable telecom solutions. Through these efforts, the country aims to expand its presence in the global technology market.
