The Parliamentary Home Affairs Committee meeting witnessed disruption on Tuesday, August 25, 2026. Opposition members demanded discussion on the pellet gun issue and Delhi Police lathi-charge at Jantar Mantar.
According to sources, the committee chairman refused the discussion request. He said members would only discuss the listed agenda items.
The committee chairman, BJP MP Radhamohan Das Agrawal, maintained that the meeting would continue according to the scheduled agenda.
Opposition highlights student protest action
The demand came amid continued political tension during the Parliament monsoon session. Frequent disruptions affected legislative work throughout the session.
Due to repeated protests, the Lok Sabha completed only 19% of its scheduled work. Opposition parties continued seeking answers from Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
The opposition raised concerns over the lathi-charge during student protests in Delhi. It also questioned the reported use of pellet guns during the incident.
Meanwhile, the central government accused the opposition of avoiding discussions and disrupting parliamentary proceedings.
Congress questions pellet gun use during protest
Congress claimed that authorities used pellet guns at Connaught Place on July 20. Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi alleged that a person named Sahil suffered over 200 pellet injuries.
Rahul Gandhi also claimed that three pellets hit Sahil’s eye. He said the investigation should continue, but authorities must first identify who ordered the alleged action.
The Congress leader also questioned the reported use of nail-studded sticks during the incident. He asked whether Union Home Minister Amit Shah or another authority approved the action.
Furthermore, Rahul Gandhi said responsibility should be fixed if the Home Minister issued such instructions. He described accountability as necessary after the alleged attack on students.
