The Allahabad High Court gave a setback to Mohammad Umar, son of mafia Atiq Ahmed. The court rejected his bail application. Justice Avneesh Saxena’s single bench dismissed Umar’s plea during Monday’s hearing. The case involves allegations of extortion, assault and threats.
Builder and financier of Atiq Ahmed, Mohammad Muslim, filed the FIR against Umar. The FIR also named several other accused.
FIR includes ₹1.20 crore extortion allegations
Authorities registered the FIR on April 26, 2023, at Khuldabad police station. The complaint named Ali Ahmed, Mohammad Umar, Asad Kalia, Ehtesham Karim, Ajay and Mohammad Nasrat. The case involves allegations of demanding ₹1.20 crore, physical assault and issuing death threats. Mohammad Umar currently remains lodged in Lucknow jail.
Court granted parole for brother’s funeral
A few weeks before the bail rejection, the High Court granted temporary parole to Mohammad Umar and Ali Ahmed. The court allowed them to attend their younger brother Abaan’s funeral on August 7. The permission came with strict guidelines. Additionally, the court instructed both brothers to avoid media interactions. Abaan died in a car accident.
After receiving parole, both brothers attended the funeral. They were seen embracing each other and crying during the event.
Umar raised security concerns during trial
Earlier, both brothers approached the High Court regarding trial proceedings. They requested video conferencing for court hearings. They also expressed concerns about their safety inside the jail. Both brothers remain accused in several cases.
Mohammad Umar faces multiple criminal cases, including the 2018 Deoria jail case. That case involves allegations of kidnapping, assault and extortion of a Lucknow businessman.
Furthermore, Umar was named in the Umesh Pal murder case. Investigators included him as part of an alleged conspiracy team behind the daytime killing.
