PCB Slaps ₹50 Lakh Fine on Each Player After Pakistan’s T20 World Cup Exit

Report claims heavy penalty followed defeat against India and poor Super-8 performance in 2026 tournament

Following a disappointing campaign in the 2026 T20 World Cup, Pakistan’s cricket team faced punishment. Under Salman Agha’s captaincy, the side failed to progress beyond the Super-8 stage.

According to reports, authorities imposed a fine of ₹50 lakh on every player for poor performance.

Defeat Against India Triggered Decision

Earlier, Pakistan needed a win of at least 65 runs against Sri Lanka last Saturday. Only such a margin could improve net run rate beyond New Zealand. Although Pakistan secured victory, it managed only a 5-run difference. Consequently, net run rate remained lower, and elimination followed.

However, sources told Express Tribune that officials decided on the penalty immediately after defeat against India.

On February 15, Team India defeated Pakistan by 61 runs. Nevertheless, the Pakistan Cricket Board has not issued any official statement yet.

Fine Imposed on Entire Squad

Furthermore, PCB sources revealed that every squad member must pay ₹50 lakh. The board linked this decision to overall poor display in T20 World Cup 2026.

Pakistan’s Tournament Performance

Throughout the tournament, Pakistan played seven matches. It recorded four wins against Namibia, USA, Netherlands, and Sri Lanka. However, Netherlands and Sri Lanka almost defeated Pakistan during their contests. Meanwhile, strong sides like India and England secured victories against Pakistan.

Therefore, inconsistent results ultimately led to early exit from the competition.
