Government oil companies have warned LPG customers about rising delivery scams. Moreover, fraudsters now pose as gas delivery agents and demand OTP or DAC. Then, they use those details to cheat customers.
Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, Indian Oil Corporation, and Bharat Petroleum shared alerts through social media. Therefore, they asked users to stay careful against this cyber fraud.
Fake Messages And Threat Calls Create Panic
According to oil companies, scammers send fake SMS and WhatsApp alerts about gas delivery. Then, they ask customers to share OTP or Delivery Authentication Code, also called DAC.
In many cases, scammers call as gas agency officials. Moreover, they try to scare customers by claiming their gas connection may close soon. After that, they demand OTP for KYC updates or Aadhaar linking.
HPCL Shares Official Message Details
HPCL clearly said its official delivery message comes only from VM-HPGASC-S. Also, that message carries a 4-digit OTP. However, customers should use this OTP only during cylinder delivery.
Additionally, HPCL said its gas representatives never ask for OTP through calls, WhatsApp, or links. Therefore, customers should reject such requests immediately.
Indian Oil And BPCL Give Safety Advice
Meanwhile, Indian Oil Corporation asked customers to share their 6-digit DAC only at the doorstep. Also, customers should share it only when the Indane delivery worker brings the cylinder.
Similarly, Bharat Petroleum said customers should share OTP only during delivery. Therefore, users should never give codes before the cylinder reaches home.
Use Only Official LPG Apps
Besides, oil companies advised customers to use only official apps for booking or updates. Customers can use IndianOil ONE, HP Pay, and Hello BPCL.
However, users should not trust WhatsApp messages from unknown numbers. Also, they should avoid every suspicious link.
What Customers Should Do After Fraud
If customers share OTP by mistake, they should call 1930 immediately. Moreover, quick complaints can improve the chance of recovering money.
Finally, customers should never share OTP with anyone. Also, they should check caller identity before responding. Therefore, official apps and websites remain the safest option.
