Saif Ali Khan recently shared a fascinating story about Omkara during an IMDb interview, surprising Bollywood fans. He revealed that he wanted to play the role portrayed by Ajay Devgn. His desire followed a conversation with director Vishal Bhardwaj, but Saif missed it because his appearance appeared too handsome for that role.

The Othello Connection and Mother’s Advice

While shooting a different project in Jaipur, Saif discussed roles with his mother, Sharmila Tagore. She encouraged him to pursue Shakespeare-based characters like Othello. Immediately after, Bhardwaj called to offer him a role in Omkara, creating confusion and excitement for Saif.

Director’s Decision: Handsome Looks Matter

Bhardwaj clarified that Saif’s looks did not match Othello, so he assigned the villainous Langda Tyagi role instead. Saif accepted and went on to perform memorably. Omkara featured Ajay Devgn in the lead role alongside actors like Kareena Kapoor Khan, Bipasha Basu, Konkona Sen Sharma, and Vivek Oberoi.
