Gurugram Rain Crisis: Heavy Downpour Exposes City’s Flood Problems

Heavy monsoon showers disrupt Gurugram traffic as roads sink, vehicles get stuck, and police advise corporate employees to work from home.

Gurugram witnessed heavy monsoon rainfall on Tuesday, bringing pleasant weather but severe disruptions. Consequently, several areas faced waterlogging and traffic problems.

The rainfall exposed challenges in the city’s infrastructure claims. Moreover, commuters faced long traffic jams across multiple locations.

Several roads reported sinking issues, while vehicles remained stranded due to poor conditions. Additionally, traffic chaos increased difficulties for residents.

Police Issue Work From Home Advisory Amid Heavy Rain

Considering the possibility of more rainfall, Gurugram Police advised corporate employees to work from home. The advisory aims to reduce unnecessary vehicle movement during difficult weather conditions. Furthermore, it will help traffic teams manage road flow better.

According to PTI, police requested private institutions to prioritize WFH arrangements for upcoming days.

Officials said reduced traffic movement would support emergency services and improve management operations.

Moreover, authorities issued the advice to protect commuters and handle damaged roads effectively.

Rainfall Disrupts Roads, Schools And Daily Movement

Rain started around 2 PM on Tuesday and continued until 4 PM. Later, several roads experienced heavy water accumulation.

The timing affected school routes because students were leaving after classes. Consequently, school buses and children faced major inconvenience.

On Delhi-Jaipur National Highway NH-48, a school bus fell into an open drain. However, no students were inside the vehicle.

NH-48 Damage Creates Long Traffic Jams

A large section of NH-48 sank after continuous rainfall. Therefore, traffic between Hero Honda Chowk and Kherki Daula Toll Plaza faced disruption.

Thousands of commuters remained stuck in long queues. Meanwhile, Gurugram Police issued a traffic advisory.

The advisory diverted vehicles to maintain smooth movement. Additionally, officials prioritised safety for travellers moving between Delhi and Jaipur.

VVIP Road Also Suffers After Heavy Rainfall

Civil Lines Road also reported sinking problems after the rainfall. Consequently, two parked vehicles got their tyres trapped. Officials said workers recently dug the area for sewer line installation. However, heavy rain worsened the road condition.

The road lies near Gurugram Deputy Commissioner Uttam Kumar’s residence. His house stands around 100 metres from the affected spot.

Additionally, Municipal Corporation Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya and Haryana Minister Rao Narbir also live nearby.

Waterlogging Creates Traffic Trouble Across Gurugram

Several major areas faced traffic jams due to waterlogging after heavy rainfall. Affected locations included Narsinghpur, Basai, Hero Honda Chowk, and Golf Course Extension Road. Furthermore, Rajiv Chowk, Vatika Chowk, IFFCO Chowk, and Udyog Vihar also faced congestion.

Other affected routes included Sohna Road, Khandsa Road, Old Delhi Road, and Pataudi Road. Additionally, Millennium City Centre to Hero Honda Chowk road faced traffic pressure.

Old Gurugram-Delhi Road, Basai Road, Old Railway Station Road, and New Railway Station Road also witnessed delays.

Police Deploy Extra Teams To Control Traffic

Despite heavy rainfall, police personnel worked to regulate traffic movement. A senior traffic department officer confirmed additional teams received deployment across different areas. Furthermore, officials coordinated with municipal authorities and GMDA teams.

The departments worked together to clear waterlogging, remove obstacles, and repair damaged roads.

Gurugram Records Significant Rainfall Across Areas

According to an official statement, Gurugram recorded maximum rainfall of 82 mm on Tuesday. Kadipur and Harsaru sub-tehsil areas received 82 mm rainfall. Meanwhile, Gurugram tehsil recorded 76 mm. Manesar received 50 mm rainfall, while Badshahpur recorded 15 mm.

Additionally, Wazirabad received 49 mm, Pataudi recorded 26 mm, and Sohna received 26 mm.

Farukhnagar recorded 27 mm rainfall during the same period.
