Despite disappointing results during the England tour, India’s team management continues its long-term planning. Meanwhile, batting coach Sitanshu Kotak explained the team’s future approach.
Accordingly, India focuses on building a strong squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup. Therefore, the management gave 15-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi an international debut opportunity.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s Debut Was Already Planned
Before the third T20 match in Nottingham, Sitanshu Kotak addressed the media. He explained that Vaibhav remained part of team plans from the beginning.
Furthermore, Kotak said the young batter needed no special preparation before his debut. The management trusted his talent from the start.
Additionally, he confirmed that officials decided on Vaibhav’s debut when they selected him.
Young Batter Creates History At 15 Years
Vaibhav Suryavanshi made his international debut during the second T20 match in Manchester. Consequently, he became India’s youngest international cricketer at 15 years and 99 days.
Moreover, Vaibhav entered the match after becoming IPL 2026’s highest run scorer. However, he could not produce a big innings during his first international appearance.
Still, he scored 14 runs from 10 deliveries and hit two impressive sixes.
Indian Team Enters Transition Phase
Kotak acknowledged that India currently faces a transition period under new captain Shreyas Iyer. Additionally, he accepted the absence of injured all-rounder Hardik Pandya affects the team.
However, the batting coach believes young players need opportunities during such phases. Therefore, India wants to prepare future options through international exposure.
T20 World Cup Remains India’s Main Target
Sitanshu Kotak stated that India’s goal extends beyond winning the current series. Furthermore, the team prepares to defend the T20 World Cup title after two years.
Consequently, young players receive chances to gain experience on bigger stages. The management believes early international exposure will create a stronger future squad.
