NCW Steps In After Twisha Sharma’s Death, Demands Answers Within 7 Days

The National Commission for Women has taken serious note of Twisha Sharma’s suspicious death and sought a detailed action report from Madhya Pradesh officials.

The National Commission for Women has taken Twisha Sharma’s suspicious death very seriously. Twisha, a 33-year-old Noida resident, died in Bhopal under suspicious circumstances. After media reports emerged, NCW chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar took suo motu cognisance. Then, she wrote to Madhya Pradesh’s Chief Secretary and DGP. Through the letter, she directed them to ensure strict action.

Family Alleges Dowry Harassment

Twisha had married only five months before her death. Her family has levelled serious allegations against her husband, Samarth Singh, and mother-in-law. They claimed both harassed Twisha for dowry. Moreover, the family accused them of causing physical and mental distress. These allegations have pushed the case into sharper public focus.

Commission Seeks A Fair Probe

Vijaya Rahatkar has asked Madhya Pradesh police and administration to conduct a fair investigation. She also demanded a transparent and timely probe. Additionally, the commission has sought an Action Taken Report within seven days. The report must explain the FIR status and sections applied in the case. It must also detail arrests, questioning, and steps taken to trace absconding accused Samarth Singh.

Eight Key Questions Before Officials

The NCW has asked officials to clarify passport impounding status. This step concerns preventing the accused from leaving India. Besides this, the commission wants updates on CCTV footage, call records, electronic evidence, and forensic material. It also asked what the postmortem report revealed. Further, officials must state whether Twisha had filed any earlier complaint. If she did, they must explain action taken on it. Finally, the commission directed full protection for her family from threats, pressure, and character attacks.

‘Negligence Will Not Be Tolerated’

The National Commission for Women strongly condemned the incident. It clearly said authorities must not tolerate negligence in dowry harassment and domestic violence cases. The commission also warned against any misuse of influence. According to it, officials must take strict legal action against the guilty. Therefore, the commission wants quick justice for the victim’s family.
