The internal struggle between Uttar Pradesh Congress leaders has reached a crucial stage. Party insiders say discussions are underway to replace current state president Ajay Rai. According to sources, in-charge Rajendra Pal Gautam prefers a Brahmin leader for the position. Meanwhile, some party leaders support choosing a Muslim face.
However, replacing Ajay Rai may upset the Bhoomihar community. Therefore, the decision has remained pending for now.
If Rahul Gandhi approves a leadership change, Aradhana Tiwari, also known as Mona, may become the strongest contender.
Three Names And Options Before Rahul Gandhi
Rajendra Pal Gautam has placed three possible options before the party high command. The final decision will depend on Rahul Gandhi’s choice. The first option suggests removing Ajay Rai and appointing Aradhana Tiwari Mona as state president. She currently represents Rampur Khas as an MLA.
Additionally, she leads the Congress Legislative Party in Uttar Pradesh. She is the daughter of Rajya Sabha deputy leader and senior leader Pramod Tiwari.
Therefore, her selection can represent both Brahmin and women communities. The Rampur Khas seat has remained with Pramod Tiwari and his daughter for nearly 45 years.
Muslim Face Or Working President Formula
The second option focuses on appointing a Muslim leader instead of Ajay Rai. The names include Danish Ali, Imran Masood, Imran Pratapgarhi and Nadeem Javed. Through this move, the party may attempt a Dalit-Muslim combination. However, leaders fear BJP could use the decision for polarisation politics.
The third option suggests keeping Ajay Rai as president. In this plan, Congress may appoint working presidents from Muslim, Dalit or Brahmin communities.
This option becomes important because elections are approaching.
Rahul Gandhi To Decide UP Congress Future
The final decision now rests with Rahul Gandhi. He can select one option or continue with the existing arrangement. Currently, party insiders believe Aradhana Tiwari Mona remains the strongest possibility if Congress changes its president. Meanwhile, organisational appointments under the party’s restructuring campaign have already been decided at different levels. However, district president appointments await the state president’s announcement.
