Udhayanidhi Stalin Detained After Trisha Comment Row Sparks Political Storm in Tamil Nadu

How the Trisha comment controversy started

Udhayanidhi Stalin addressed a protest meeting in Thanjavur over the Cauvery water dispute. During the speech, he targeted Chief Minister Vijay. He alleged that Tamil Nadu did not receive even one drop of Cauvery water. Udhayanidhi also accused the Chief Minister of ignoring the issue. Meanwhile, some people present at the gathering started chanting “Trisha… Trisha…”. After that, Udhayanidhi paused his speech and made a comment.

Many people viewed the remark as an indirect reference to actress Trisha. Several people also considered it a double-meaning and objectionable statement.

Consequently, the issue turned into a political controversy. Police later detained Udhayanidhi after registering an FIR.

Protests increase after Udhayanidhi’s remark

Following the controversy, authorities increased security outside Udhayanidhi Stalin’s residence. TVK workers also held a protest outside his house.

Opposition parties demanded a public apology from Udhayanidhi. They criticised the statement and called for accountability.

Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam filed complaints against Stalin with local police. The party also approached the National Commission for Women.

BJP attacks Udhayanidhi Stalin over remarks

The BJP demanded Udhayanidhi Stalin’s arrest over the alleged comment. Tamil Nadu BJP chief spokesperson Narayanan Tirupathy criticised him. In a post on X, Narayanan called the remark disgusting, obscene, vulgar, and shameful. He said such language was unacceptable.

He added that even a criminal with a mother, wife, or daughter would not make such a statement. According to him, no woman would forgive such comments.
