Truecaller Report Shock: Why 79% Indians Now Ignore Business Calls

Rising spam, fake calls, and online fraud have reduced trust in unknown numbers, affecting even genuine business communication across India.

Today, many people hesitate before answering calls from unknown numbers. Increasing spam, fake calls, and online fraud have changed user behaviour.

Consequently, people now ignore unfamiliar numbers or carefully decide before responding. This trend also affects genuine business calls.

Recently, Truecaller released its “The State of Business Calling 2026” report. The report highlights changing trust levels around business communication.

What Does The Truecaller Report Reveal?

Truecaller prepared the report with Tata Tele Business Services and research agency Kantar. The study reveals major changes in calling habits across India.

According to the report, around 79% Indians avoid answering business calls from unknown numbers. Moreover, spam and fake calls remain the biggest reasons behind this declining trust.

However, 76% people still prefer voice calls over emails, SMS, and chats. The survey included over 500 B2B companies and 1,000 consumers.

Furthermore, researchers conducted the survey across 17 Indian cities. The findings show people value calls with clear identity and useful information.

Therefore, users hesitate when they see unknown numbers without proper caller details.

Why Are People Avoiding Business Calls?

The growing number of spam and fake calls affects consumers and legitimate companies. As a result, businesses also face communication challenges.

Many people skip important business calls because they cannot identify the caller. Consequently, genuine interactions often lose attention.

Additionally, the survey shows 49% consumers would answer business calls if companies provide timely callback options.

They also prefer receiving calls when caller identity appears clearly. Therefore, transparent communication can help businesses rebuild user confidence.

Meanwhile, companies face the challenge of separating genuine calls from unwanted spam communication.
