BJP Asked Poonawalla to Reconsider His Decision
Poonawalla said the party’s initial response deeply moved him. BJP leaders refused immediate acceptance and requested another review of his decision. Nevertheless, he continued discussions and carefully considered every aspect. Eventually, he decided to stand by his earlier choice. Therefore, Poonawalla sought release from both organisational responsibilities and active primary membership.
Recent Events Strengthened His Earlier Stand
While sharing his resignation letter, Poonawalla referred to developments from recent days. He also mentioned certain individuals already discussed in detail. According to Poonawalla, those developments forced him to remain firm about his previous decision. Still, he expressed no hurt feelings towards senior BJP leaders. Instead, his message carried gratitude, affection, love, and the highest respect.
Poonawalla specifically named Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party president Nitin Nabin. He also mentioned Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. Additionally, organisation general secretary B.L. Santosh featured in his message. Poonawalla again thanked BJP for platforms and opportunities provided during the previous five years.
Financial and Personal Circumstances Drive Private-Sector Move
Poonawalla also explained what he plans to do after leaving active politics. He cited urgent financial and personal circumstances behind his next professional move. Consequently, he said he would enter the private sector. However, his support for Prime Minister Modi and BJP’s vision will continue wherever possible.
Furthermore, Poonawalla said he would support the party’s work in whichever form circumstances allow. He clearly separated organisational membership from ideological support. “I am leaving the party system, but not the ideology and the person,” he said.
Earlier, Poonawalla resigned from Congress during 2017. Subsequently, he joined Congress. Afterward, he regularly represented the party’s position during television debates. However, Poonawalla has now announced his departure from BJP. His resignation therefore ends active organisational membership, while his stated ideological support continues
