Bihar will soon hold elections for five Rajya Sabha seats. Moreover, March 5 marks the final date for nominations.
Since Holi falls on March 4, candidates will likely file nominations on the last day. Meanwhile, discussions about potential nominees have intensified.
Political circles now speculate that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s son, Nishant Kumar, may enter the Rajya Sabha through JDU.
Demand For Nishant’s Political Entry
At present, no one can confirm these claims. However, supporters have demanded Nishant’s political debut for years.
In fact, supporters have placed posters in Patna several times. Additionally, senior JDU leaders have publicly urged him to join politics.
Ultimately, Nishant Kumar and Nitish Kumar must decide.
Upendra Kushwaha Backs Opportunity For Nishant
As the Rajya Sabha opportunity emerged, Nishant’s name resurfaced strongly. Recently, RLM MP Upendra Kushwaha supported his political entry.
On Sunday, Kushwaha said Nishant should join politics and deserves a chance.
That same day, Patna celebrated Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s 75th birthday. JDU workers cut cake and distributed it among children.
Responding to workers’ demands, Kushwaha repeated that Nishant deserves an opportunity. However, he clarified that Nishant must take the final call.
He also noted that Nishant’s father serves as the state’s Chief Minister. Therefore, JDU will take any official decision regarding candidature.
Past Speculation During Assembly Elections
Earlier, during Bihar Assembly elections, some claimed Nishant would contest polls. However, he did not enter the fray.
Last year, on Nishant’s birthday, Kushwaha described him as a new hope for JDU through a public post.
Furthermore, Kushwaha suggested that managing both government and party may not remain suitable for the JDU chief alone.
He emphasized that Nitish Kumar’s long administrative experience benefits the state greatly.
However, he urged timely decisions regarding transfer of party responsibility. According to him, such a step would serve the party’s interests.
