‘Don’t Hurt Him’: Rajpal Yadav Defends Saurabh Dwivedi And Zakir Khan After Joke Row

After backlash over a debt joke at an award show, Rajpal Yadav stood firmly with Saurabh Dwivedi, calling him family and urging respect

Actor Rajpal Yadav responded strongly after backlash targeted journalist Saurabh Dwivedi over a joke. The incident happened during an award show in Mumbai on April 5. During the event, Dwivedi joked about Rajpal’s financial troubles. Consequently, the moment triggered reactions across social media platforms.

Award Show Moment and Reaction

Rajpal Yadav attended the show while facing a legal issue related to a Rs 9 crore cheque bounce case. During a live interaction, Saurabh Dwivedi mentioned the actor’s financial situation humorously. This playful exchange made the audience laugh loudly.

Notably, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also attended the event. Meanwhile, the joke entertained the audience during the live segment. However, later reactions online criticised the journalist heavily.

Rajpal Breaks Silence on Backlash

On April 7, Rajpal shared a video on Instagram addressing the controversy directly. He explained that the segment involved planned skits during the show. Additionally, he said that he, Saurabh Dwivedi, and Zakir Khan discussed global issues.

They spoke about wars, economic fluctuations, and common challenges affecting people. Rajpal added that cheque bounce cases and financial instability impact ordinary citizens widely. Therefore, the skit aimed to reflect broader realities.

Rajpal Explains Intent Behind Skit

He stated that creators tried to build a general skit for global audiences. However, he noted that sometimes audiences misunderstand designed scenes. He compared this situation with films where intended meaning fails to reach viewers clearly.

Therefore, he described the moment as part of creative expression rather than personal attack.

Strong Support for Saurabh and Zakir

Rajpal called Saurabh Dwivedi and Zakir Khan like younger brothers. He said they always showed respect toward him. Moreover, he described them as “jigar ke tukde” and expressed deep affection.

He recalled that Saurabh stood and applauded him in the auditorium. Then, he thanked Saurabh publicly for that gesture. Additionally, he requested people not to criticise Saurabh harshly.

He said, “Please do not hurt Saurabh through negative comments, hurting him means hurting me.” He also added, “I love Saurabh, I love Zakir.”
