Prashant Kishor’s big Bihar plan revealed, Nitish Kumar’s tour may come later

After the Bankipur bypoll victory, Jan Suraaj is preparing a statewide campaign covering all 38 districts before upcoming elections.

Jan Suraaj founder and MLA Prashant Kishor may begin a Bihar tour from September 15. The development follows his victory in the Bankipur Assembly bypoll. After winning, Kishor organised the Aabhar Bankipur programme. He visited different wards on separate days and thanked voters for choosing him.

Now, Kishor plans another statewide outreach before Nitish Kumar’s proposed journey. JDU national working president Sanjay Jha recently mentioned Kumar’s Bihar tour. According to him, Kumar may begin travelling across Bihar from October. He cited the ongoing monsoon as the reason for waiting.

However, Kishor appears ready to meet people earlier. His proposed campaign will cover all 38 districts across Bihar. Meanwhile, Jan Suraaj plans to expand its organisation and strengthen its ground presence. The party also plans to restart its membership drive.

Through this journey, Kishor will reconnect with people across villages and towns. He will raise local issues and target the government during these interactions. The party expects his outreach to attract many new members.

Six to seven districts may form each travel phase

The proposed campaign will follow a phased structure. Kishor may cover around six to seven districts during each phase. His journey could begin in West Champaran and conclude in Patna.

The timing also connects with upcoming electoral plans. Legislative Council elections will take place in November this year. Eight seats from teacher and graduate constituencies remain proposed for that election. Panchayat elections will also take place in 2027 after delimitation.

Therefore, Jan Suraaj wants to enter these contests with stronger grassroots organisation. Preparations for Kishor’s journey have already started. The party will formally announce the programme soon.

The Bankipur victory has strengthened enthusiasm within Jan Suraaj. Kishor defeated the BJP candidate there by 19,324 votes. The constituency remains known as a BJP stronghold.

Kishor has travelled across Bihar before. He undertook the Jan Suraaj Padyatra and Bihar Badlav Yatra across the state. However, this journey carries added significance because he will travel after becoming an MLA.
