Independent MP from Bihar’s Purnia, Pappu Yadav, faced an alleged attack in Delhi on Sunday, 2 August. The incident occurred during his press conference and created chaos at the location. Afterward, Pappu Yadav’s media adviser Zaid submitted a complaint to the New Delhi DCP. The complaint demanded an attempt to murder case and a detailed investigation.
Complaint alleges planned attack with political connection
The complaint stated that a group of four to five people suddenly reached the press conference. According to the complaint, attackers allegedly planned the incident and carried a knife.
It claimed the attackers wanted to seriously injure Pappu Yadav and kill him. The complaint also described the incident as a pre-planned attack.
Media adviser Zaid said journalists and Pappu Yadav’s private security personnel were present. Therefore, their presence helped prevent a bigger incident.
During the attempt to stop the attack, the complainant and two security personnel suffered injuries. The complaint requested strict action against those involved.
Police register FIR under BNS sections
The complaint alleged that one attacker had links with a political party. Zaid requested an investigation into that connection.
Meanwhile, police registered an FIR regarding the incident at Pappu Yadav’s residence. Police filed the case under sections 221, 121(1), 132 and 3(5) of BNS.
The complaint reached the New Delhi district DCP. Police confirmed receiving the complaint and started examining the matter.
Furthermore, police said they would review CCTV footage and statements from people present. Authorities will decide further action after the investigation.
Background behind the press conference incident
The incident followed a protest outside Parliament over the alleged Ram temple donation theft issue. During the protest, Pappu Yadav wore saffron clothes and appeared in a saint’s attire. Following this act, BJP, Vishwa Hindu Parishad and other Hindu organisations expressed objections. Several complaints and FIRs were filed against him in Delhi, Varanasi and other places. These groups accused him of insulting saints and Lord Ram. Later, Pappu Yadav held a press conference in Delhi regarding the allegations.
During the conference, an argument broke out with some people present there. Soon after, a person allegedly attacked Pappu Yadav.
Supporters caught the person and assaulted him before police took him away. Pappu Yadav claimed the person carried a knife and alleged a conspiracy against him.
He also stated that he would not fear such incidents.
