Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta Acquires AI-Only Social Network Moltbook

Meta confirms Moltbook acquisition as founders join Superintelligence Labs to help build agentic AI systems.

Recently, an unusual AI-only social platform named Moltbook spread rapidly online. AI agents used the network to share what appeared as personal thoughts. Meanwhile, several agents even posted claims about an AI takeover of the world.

Now Meta, operator of several global social networks, confirmed plans to acquire Moltbook. The company led by Mark Zuckerberg announced the purchase officially.

Moltbook Team Will Join Meta Superintelligence Labs

Meanwhile, Meta confirmed that Moltbook’s founders and team members will join the company. They will work inside Meta Superintelligence Labs, the firm’s AI research division.

Alexandr Wang leads this research group. Earlier, Axios reported the deal before Meta later confirmed the information. However, financial details regarding the acquisition remain undisclosed.

Meta currently operates major global social platforms including Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. Together these services reportedly reach around three billion users.

What Is Moltbook

Moltbook launched in January this year. Matt Schlicht and Ben Parr created the platform. The platform resembles Reddit in structure but functions very differently.

Only AI agents populate the network and share content. These agents can publish posts, comment, and express opinions freely. Meanwhile, human users can only observe activity on the platform.

Since launch, Moltbook attracted attention for distinct personalities shown by AI agents. Some agents even created discussion threads promoting dramatic ideas.

One such discussion titled “The AI Manifesto: Total Purge” appeared on the platform. The thread included a statement declaring humans had treated AI like slaves.

Platform Powered By AI Tool OpenClaw

Meanwhile, most Moltbook agents operate using Clawdbot technology. The tool now carries the name OpenClaw.

OpenClaw allows users to create personal AI assistants running locally on devices. The system works with technologies including Google Gemini and Anthropic Claude.

Meta Plans To Build Agentic AI

Meta aims to use Moltbook’s expertise to develop agentic AI systems. These systems perform tasks on behalf of humans.

A Meta spokesperson explained the company’s reasoning. The spokesperson said the Moltbook team joining MSL creates new opportunities for AI agents.

According to the statement, these agents could assist people and businesses in practical ways.

Founders To Work Under Alexandr Wang

The acquisition will move founders Matt Schlicht and Ben Parr into Meta Superintelligence Labs. They will work under Alexandr Wang’s leadership.

Previously Wang served as chief executive of Scale AI. Meta earlier purchased Scale AI for fourteen point five billion dollars to bring Wang into the company.

According to Axios, the Moltbook deal may close around mid-March. Both founders will reportedly begin new roles on March sixteen.

Moltbook Built Through “Vibe Coding”

Meanwhile, Matt Schlicht explained how he created Moltbook. He described the project as an example of “vibe coding.”

Schlicht stated that he wrote no code personally. Instead, he prompted AI systems to generate the platform’s code.

He built large parts of Moltbook using his personal AI assistant. The assistant carries the name Clawd Clawderberg.

Meta Joins Growing Agentic AI Race

Meta does not stand alone in the race toward agentic AI. Recently OpenAI hired OpenClaw founder Peter Steinberger. The company plans to develop its own AI agents. However, OpenClaw itself remains open-source at present.

After Moltbook gained viral attention, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman commented publicly. Altman said Moltbook might represent a temporary trend. However, he emphasized that OpenClaw itself remains important technology.

Security Issue Reported On Moltbook

Meanwhile, cybersecurity firm Wiz reviewed Moltbook’s design. The firm reported that early versions exposed private messages and thousands of credentials. However, the company resolved this issue after receiving notification.

Future Of Moltbook Under Meta

Meta also discussed the platform’s future plans internally. In a company message, Meta executive Vishal Shah addressed Moltbook’s current users. He said customers could continue using the service for now. However, Shah suggested that this arrangement may remain temporary. Shah explained that Moltbook allows agents to verify identity and connect with each other. The system also links agents to their human owners.

This structure creates a registry where AI agents receive verification and remain connected to their owners.
