The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process is underway in Delhi. During this exercise, several prominent personalities received notices. The list includes former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, former Deputy Prime Minister Lal Krishna Advani, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.
According to election officials, authorities issued these notices after finding discrepancies in enumeration forms submitted by voters. Meanwhile, Congress criticised the central government and the Election Commission over the issue.
Kharge questions SIR process and calls it flawed
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge strongly criticised the SIR process. He shared a social media post regarding the matter.
Kharge said SIR started from Bihar and has now reached Delhi. He added that those in power now understand why Congress called the process flawed from the beginning.
Furthermore, Kharge targeted the BJP and described SIR as an alleged tool for vote theft and harming democracy. He called the process a “Frankenstein Monster” that has now affected its own people.
Notices issued to several prominent names
Kharge said several senior BJP leaders received notices during the SIR process. The names include Lal Krishna Advani and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.
He also mentioned Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu, Rajya Sabha members, former Union ministers and former chief ministers.
Additionally, Kharge said notices were earlier issued to a Bharat Ratna-winning scientist and a former Navy chief.
Kharge raises questions over voter deletions
The Congress president also raised questions about names removed from voter lists in Bengal. He said 93 percent of decided appeal cases were won by affected people.
According to Kharge, 1,13,943 people will return to the voter list. He questioned the basis behind removing their voting rights.
Election Commission faces Kharge’s criticism
Kharge also criticised the Election Commission over its communication about VIP or marked electors. He questioned whether universal adult franchise now has separate categories.
He asked if VIP voters and ordinary voters receive different importance. Kharge referred to the constitutional principle of “One Person, One Vote, One Value”.
Moreover, he claimed that 13.8 crore voters were removed from lists during the first three SIR phases across 31 states and union territories.
Kharge said this number represents around 14.61 percent of 94.78 crore voters. He questioned why action remained pending.
He further alleged that VIPs received press releases while ordinary voters faced silence.
