SIR Controversy Escalates: Kejriwal Demands Fresh Elections, Questions Election Process

AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal raises objections over SIR and demands cancellation of recent elections while making allegations against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Amid the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) controversy, Aam Aadmi Party national convenor Arvind Kejriwal made major claims. He demanded fresh elections in several states. During a press conference, Kejriwal alleged corruption against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. He also demanded his arrest.

Furthermore, Kejriwal asked authorities to cancel recent assembly elections held during the last two to three years. He demanded fresh voting across affected states.

Kejriwal Demands Cancellation Of Multiple State Elections

According to Kejriwal, elections held in Delhi, Maharashtra, Bihar, West Bengal, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and other states should restart.

He said the Supreme Court ruling explains that the Election Commission does not represent one person. Instead, it includes three members.

The panel includes one Chief Election Commissioner and two Election Commissioners. Therefore, decisions require consensus or majority approval.

Kejriwal stated that one individual cannot independently control decisions.

Questions Raised Over Election Commissioners’ Letters

The former Delhi Chief Minister claimed reports suggest Gyanesh Kumar has operated the commission alone. He said both Election Commissioners repeatedly submitted written complaints. According to him, officials issued orders without their approval. Kejriwal mentioned that Election Commissioner Sukhbir Singh Sandhu wrote to ECI on October 28, 2025. He claimed the letter raised concerns about approvals without information.

Furthermore, he said another letter came on April 16, 2026. The letter allegedly mentioned that media reports revealed information technology module details.

Kejriwal claimed similar letters continued from Election Commissioners. He said orders and circulars came without official meetings or approval.

Kejriwal Calls SIR Process Illegal

The AAP leader claimed Election Commission meetings did not happen for months. Meanwhile, several orders continued. He alleged that SIR removed 13 crore names from voter lists across the country. According to him, the complete process lacks legality.

Kejriwal demanded cancellation of SIR. He said the process lacked official approval from the Election Commission.

Moreover, he referred to reports stating SDMs hold authority for voter additions and removals. They work as Electoral Registration Officers (EROs).

He claimed only EROs possess the power to add or delete voter names. Kejriwal alleged ERO access was removed.

He further claimed the Chief Election Commissioner in Delhi could access voter lists nationwide. He alleged constitutional powers were taken away.

Kejriwal Calls SIR Biggest Alleged Scam

Kejriwal described SIR as the biggest alleged scam in the country. He said nothing could be larger than this issue. He stated freedom fighters fought for two reasons. One involved ending British rule, while another focused on democracy. According to Kejriwal, voter lists now face problems due to central handling. He demanded rejection of all changes.

Finally, he called for restoring the three-year-old voter list.
