Kaushambi Firecracker Warehouse Blast Leaves 7 Dead, Homes Destroyed

A massive explosion near the Kaushambi-Prayagraj border damaged several houses, trapped people under debris, and triggered a major rescue operation.

A huge blast struck a firecracker warehouse in Uttar Pradesh’s Kaushambi on Monday morning. The explosion occurred around 11 am near the Kaushambi-Prayagraj border. The warehouse reportedly operated under the name Aditya. It falls near the boundary of Pipri and Puramufti police station areas. The blast killed seven people, according to reports. However, officials have not yet confirmed the death toll. Several others reportedly suffered injuries.

Nearby Houses Crushed Under The Impact

The powerful explosion damaged or destroyed several houses surrounding the warehouse. Some homes reportedly collapsed completely after the blast. Consequently, residents rushed toward the affected area after hearing the explosion. People from nearby villages also reached the location. They joined rescue teams while workers removed debris. Authorities continued efforts to locate people trapped underneath.

Firecrackers Continue Exploding At The Site

Firecrackers reportedly continued bursting at the explosion site. Therefore, people struggled to approach the affected area safely. Fire engines reached the location and started firefighting operations. Police forces from several stations also arrived there. Meanwhile, Kaushambi’s district magistrate and superintendent of police reached the site. Officials from both districts also joined the rescue operation.

Death Toll And Injuries Remain Unconfirmed

Reports indicate that more than a dozen people suffered burns or remained trapped beneath debris. Seven deaths have also emerged in initial reports. However, authorities have not officially confirmed that figure yet. Rescue teams continue prioritising injured people and those trapped inside collapsed structures. Families now face severe distress following the devastating incident.

Questions Over Explosive Storage

Information in the reference says licences allow storage of no more than 10 kilograms of explosive material. Yet, the blast raises concerns about a much larger quantity. Officials suspect the warehouse may have stored explosives in huge amounts. The quantity could possibly have reached several quintals. Therefore, authorities face questions about the warehouse’s operation near residential villages.

Blast Heard Across Two Kilometres

The explosion produced such force that people reportedly heard it nearly two kilometres away. Residents panicked after the sudden sound shook the area. Meanwhile, police and other investigation teams started examining the incident. The authorities continue assessing the circumstances surrounding the warehouse and explosive storage.

The biggest questions now concern permission for such large storage. Authorities must also determine who bears responsibility for the disaster. For now, rescue work continues while officials investigate the incident.
