Ahead of US and Iranian delegations’ talks in Islamabad, Pakistani security agencies went on high alert.
Police and the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) launched a raid to prevent potential terrorist attacks and protests. Between last night and early morning, authorities searched 323 homes and detained 26 individuals based on suspicion.
Additionally, 901 people were questioned and searched in various parts of the city.
Security Fears Trigger Raids
Sources revealed that Pakistan’s security agencies feared an attack by TTP or LeT during the US-Iran discussions. These groups could have taken advantage of the talks to execute a large-scale assault. To prevent this, Islamabad police focused on Pashtun and Baloch-majority areas.
The raid led to the arrest of 26 people suspected of planning attacks.
Drug Seizures During Security Sweep
In another part of the operation, CTD and police set up roadblocks to inspect vehicles. They stopped 180 motorcycles and 73 cars, arresting one individual with 285 grams of drugs. Authorities have not disclosed the specific charges against the detained 26 individuals.
However, sources confirmed that the raids aimed to thwart any terrorist activity or anti-US protests.
