Online food ordering has become essential for residents living alone or away from family, especially working professionals. Currently, Zomato and Swiggy dominate the market. However, Flipkart plans to enter the food delivery business, creating a new alternative for customers. Reports indicate the company will begin pilot operations in Bengaluru next month. If the pilot succeeds, Flipkart could gradually expand its food services across other cities, providing additional options for users.
CEO Confirms Competitive Strategy
Flipkart’s CEO stated that any company with solid plans and superior services can compete effectively against existing market leaders. Since Flipkart already serves millions through e-commerce, it can leverage its customer base to promote food delivery services efficiently.
Previously, Flipkart launched its quick-commerce service, delivering essential goods in 10–15 minutes. The success of this service demonstrated strong customer response, encouraging the company to venture into food delivery.
Potential Market Impact
Flipkart’s entry could disrupt the dominance of Zomato and Swiggy, giving users more choices for fast and reliable food delivery. Existing customers of Flipkart might shift to its food platform due to convenience and integrated services.
Additionally, this move aligns with Flipkart’s broader strategy to expand service offerings beyond traditional e-commerce. For now, Zomato and Swiggy remain strong, but Flipkart’s presence may intensify competition and improve overall customer experience.
