A major shift has emerged along the Line of Actual Control after the BRICS Summit 2026 concluded. A Defence Ministry report records fewer Chinese troops facing India’s northern border during 2025. The document also mentions 10 combined arms brigades deployed across Chinese areas near the LAC and army training zones. The ministry recently made this report available on its website. It provides several details about China’s military presence along the northern frontier. Consequently, the latest figures suggest movement toward lower border tensions between both countries.
Disengagement Followed By Fresh Diplomatic Engagement
India and China faced sustained military tension in eastern Ladakh from 2020 onward. Meanwhile, both nations continued military and diplomatic discussions through the following years. In 2024, troops completed disengagement across several areas after those negotiations. Now, the reported 2025 deployment reduction signals another possible step toward easing tensions. India has consistently pushed for fewer troops along the frontier and a return toward normal conditions.
Additionally, Special Representative-level talks resumed between India and China over border-related issues. The two sides held rounds in December 2024 and August 2025. These discussions aim to address longstanding border questions through political and diplomatic channels. Moreover, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited China in August 2025 during this process. He attended the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Tianjin. During that visit, both sides discussed several aspects of improving bilateral relations.
Therefore, the latest deployment figures add another development to the ongoing India-China engagement. The Defence Ministry report provides the latest reference point for China’s military presence during 2025.
